Dimapur deputy commissioner Anoop Khinchi on Thursday directed the school education department authority in the district to resume the midday meal scheme in schools with immediate effect.
In an order, Khinchi also asked the department to ensure strict social distancing for parents coming to schools for collection of foodgrains as per the government directive.
He further directed the principal/headmaster of respective schools to prepare lesson plan and home plan for students and handover these to the parents who come to schools to collect foodgrains so that the studies of students may continue from home.
Khinchi said the first phase of distribution of foodgrains for one month under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) Scheme for PHH ration card holders began in the respective fair price shops or through village councils on Thursday.
He said the distribution of the foodgrains would be done on the basis of 5 kg per beneficiary per month free of cost under the scheme.
Kohima deputy commissioner Gregory Thejawelie also launched the free ration distribution programme under PMGKAY at Naga Hospital colony on Thursday.
He said under the free ration programme, rice will be distributed for free to poor families in Naga Hospital colony through the fair price shop located in the colony.
He said 5kg of rice for each member of the family will be distributed to the impoverished families each month under the scheme. The scheme is a live saver for many families struggling to make ends meet during the lockdown period as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Thejawelie added.
The scheme can be availed only by AAY and PHH ration card holders.
