Nagaland is among the five northeastern states which have been declared ‘Corona-free’ on Monday.

In his daily briefing on COVID19, Nagaland principal secretary (home) Abhijit Sinha said as of Monday altogether 629 samples were sent for testing from the state.

Out of these, results of 613 samples have been received and all tested negative while results for 16 samples are awaited.

He said 1,090 persons have been screened and 31 persons are under facility quarantine.

On the surveillance activities being carried out in the containment zone in Dimapur, Sinha on Sunday said 5,667 persons have been interviewed, covering 1,005 households.

A patient, who was referred from a hospital in Dimapur, tested positive for COVID19 in Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

He said 427 samples in connection with the positive case have been sent from the state for testing and all have tested negative.

Regarding apprehensions expressed by certain quarters regarding burial of bodies of people in the event of death due to COVID19, Sinha said the state health department has prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) in this regard.

The SOP is to be followed by all the hospitals and all concerned for preparation of any dead body for burying or cremating it safely.

All the hospitals and the district task forces have been made aware of the details of the SOP and they are suitably prepared for the same, he said.

Sinha said the Naga Council Dimapur, the Kohima Village Council and the Tangha Village Council in Longleng recently deliberated on the issue of disposal and burial of COVID19 patients.

He said after observing all the standard health safety precautions, the mortal remains of the COVID patient would be buried in the cemetery or village or burial ground of the family or church without any discrimination taking utmost care.

On the law and order, Sinha said 21 violations of the lockdown were reported and 21 persons were bound down on Monday.

There has been no report of any law and order incident in any part of the state, he added.
