The crucial meeting of the core committee on Naga political issue has begun in Dimapur in Nagaland. 

The meeting is underway at the Chumukedima Police Complex at Dimapur in Nagaland. 

The core committee comprises of 15 MLAs as members – five each are from the BJP and the NPF, four from the NDPP and one independent MLA.  

The meeting has been called to deliberate the proposed Naga peace agreement between the Centre and the NSCN-IM and the NNPGs.

NNPGs (Naga National Political Groups) comprises of six armed insurgent outfits that have agreed for peace talks. 

The meeting will discuss on arriving at a solution or at least finding a way forward to resolve the decades-long Naga political issue. 

The Naga talks hit a deadlock in early 2020 after the NSCN-IM refused to sit for discussions with interlocutor and Nagaland Governor RN Ravi. 

Since then, a team of Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been carrying forward the negotiations with the NSCN-IM.

The NSCN-IM has been on loggerheads with the Centre over its demands for “a separate constitution and a flag for the Nagas”. 

Moreover, the NSCN-IM has also been demanding merger of all Naga inhabited areas in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
