Dimapur: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, the two women legislators of the state, among many others in the state, on Thursday condemned in strongest terms the parading of two women naked in Manipur.
“The incident in Manipur is barbaric and shameful. I condemn the despicable act in the strongest terms possible,” Rio wrote on his Twitter handle.
He said the tyranny of the mob has no place in a civilized society. “We are deeply pained by the series of incidents that have been happening in Manipur,” Rio said.
Minister for women resource development Salhoutuonuo Kruse said no words can adequately describe the horrific crime that our two sisters had to endure. The justice system must ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes, she said.
“I am terribly pained to see the two women paraded naked in Manipur. I strongly condemn this horrific act. No effort should be spared to punish the assailants and justice should be brought at the earliest,” Kruse tweeted.
Adviser to the industries department Hekali Jakhalu expressed pain to see the video of the two women being sexually assaulted in public in Manipur.
“I refuse to open the video out of respect for the victims but going crazy thinking what if it were me, my mother, my daughter. Dear sisters we r sorry we couldn’t protect you. #SaveManipur,” Jalkhalu tweeted.
Former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president K Therie said the Manipur genocide and cruelty have crossed all limits.
“There is nothing dirtier than what they are doing to our daughters and sisters for no crime of theirs. Words are not enough to describe the feelings of pain and anger,” Therie said in a statement.
He said it is time Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh makes his position known to the people.
