Dimapur: An inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) is on a visit to the landslide and rain-affected areas in Nagaland to assess the damage caused by the monsoon disaster.
The is led by the joint secretary (freedom fighters and rehabilitation division), Ministry of Home Affairs, Anant Kishore Saran.
The five-member team visited Zunheboto district for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the wake of recent landslides and flash floods in the district.
The visiting team held a briefing with the Zunheboto district administration, District Disaster Management Authority, Zunheboto Town Council and other departments concerned at the DC’s conference hall.

During the meeting, the central team was familiarised with a PowerPoint presentation by the departments concerned to give it a proper overview of the current ground situation. Later, the team visited the majorly hit colonies and areas and interacted with affected families, residents, and area leaders.
The IMCT also held a briefing with district administrations of Tuensang, Shamator and Noklak districts on the day at the Zunheboto DC’s conference hall where the District Disaster Management Authority from each district highlighted through PowerPoint presentation the calamities caused by the landslides and flash floods in their districts.
On September 10, the IMCT visited the landslide-affected areas at Pherima where six persons were killed and houses and business establishments were damaged.

The team inspected the areas to assess the damage caused by the incessant rain leading to mudslides and landslides in several areas along NH-29 at Pherima, Pagala Pahar, Tseiphema and Piphema.
The team also interacted with the people affected by the landslides. The local leaders briefed the team on the situation in their areas.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio held a meeting with the IMCT in the office chamber in Kohima on September 10.
Rio said the central team is visiting Nagaland in response to the memorandum sent by the state government to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of damage caused by heavy monsoon rains in the state.
