Nagaland DGP John Longkumer on Tuesday clarified that the Nagaland Police department has not enforced one-day salary cut from the police officers and jawans towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
The clarification from the Nagaland director general of police (DGP) comes following reports that the police department enforced the officers and other personnel of the department to donate their one day’s salary towards the CMRF to fight COVID19.
Nagaland police chief John Longkumer on Tuesday said: “There is an erroneous report going around that Police Department has enforced a one-day salary cut from police officers and jawans towards the CM Relief Fund. This is untrue.”
He, however, said the contribution towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during this crisis period is “totally voluntary”.
The Nagaland DGP revealed that on Tuesday the IPS and NPS Association and the branches in the Police Headquarters voluntarily contributed Rs 25 lakh to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
“Contributions are voluntary and accepted whether from a jawan or an officer and no amount is fixed,” he stated.
He added, “It is an amount decided by the contributor. Whether it is Rs 10 or Rs 10,000 it is up to the individual.”
The Nagaland DGP said, “We have decided that giving is a most Christian virtue and nobody can question or judge that fundamental right of the individual.”
He hoped “this would clarify any doubts”.

Informing about the contribution towards the CMRF, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio tweeted: “@DGP_Nagaland along with the President & Gen. I’m grateful not only for their reverential service but also for their generosity & magnanimity in this testing time.”
