KOHIMA: Nagaland Congress has strongly criticized the BJP government in Assam for what it perceives as a “well-planned and coordinated attack on the Christian community” in the state.

The Nagaland Congress has urged the BJP government in Assam to take immediate corrective measures to safeguard the longstanding traditions of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence in Assam and the Northeast.

Pointing to various incidents, including the Assam police’s survey of churches in 2022, warnings issued to missionary schools by the Hindu group Kutumba Suraksha Parishad, and the passage of the Assam Healing Practices Bill 2024, the Nagaland Congress has raised concerns about an “impending disaster” being orchestrated in Assam.

It also drew parallels with recent violence in Manipur, attributing both incidents to the BJP.

The Nagaland Congress accused the BJP government in Assam of being the “primary instigator” behind these communal actions, alleging that it is driven by the BJP’s central ideology of exclusionary majoritarianism.

Nagaland Congress further asserted that the BJP relies on fuelling communal tensions to secure electoral victories, a tactic it claims is once again being employed in Assam.
