Five police personnel from Nagaland will now serve the Northeastern community in New Delhi as part of the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER).
SPUNER is a special unit that has been formed to serve the people from the northeastern region residing in the national capital.
The special unit was formed on the recommendation of a committee headed by member of the North-Eastern Council, MP Bezbaruah.

The ministry of home affairs had constituted this committee after a few shopkeepers had beaten to death a 19-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh in the Lajpat area in New Delhi in 2014.
The Delhi police on Thursday came out with the new list comprising of 36 names of police personnel for the special unit, which comprised personnel from the eight Northeastern states.
The five police personnel from Nagaland are Hinoto P Aomi, Vitso Rio, Mhasilenuo Keditsu, Kelhusilie Nagi, Chubalemla Chang.
SPUNER is especially responsible for the safety of Northeastern people and has to respond to distress calls including accidents, conducting free medical check-ups, facilitating post-mortem at hospitals among other activities.
