Nagaland’s Dimapur wore a deserted look early Monday morning even as the Public Action Committee (PAC) under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur comprising 19 tribe hohos and NGOs has imposed a 12-hour bandh in the commercial capital of Nagaland on Monday from 5 am.

The motive of the bandh is to ‘contain the multiple taxation, syndicate system, extortion, abductions in Dimapur, the latest incident where a showroom (Riven Honda) run by a Naga lady entrepreneur was fired at on November 20 whereas the culprits are yet to be apprehended and remain at large,’ stated a press release from the press and media cell of the PAC.

The PAC has appealed to the citizens of Dimapur to ‘extend support and cooperation and maintain peace and tranquility during the bandh period.’

Those exempted from the bandh include paramilitary, police and district administration, students appearing various examinations s, medical treatment duty, wedding participant with cards and stickers, funerals, tourist /travelers traveling outside by train /air with valid tickets, power department personnel with ID cards, press and media.

Volunteers have been directed to strictly comply as per the instructions to avoid untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, the district administration has issued travel advisory to the people and in order to ensure seamless transit of travellers to and from Dimapur on Monday , the Nagaland Tourist Police have organized teams of police escorts.

Helpline numbers have also been introduced for the convenience of the general public.

The Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur and the Police Commissioner of Dimapur have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
