Nagaland will join the Himalayan clean-up campaign by conducting social work in five districts of the state on May 25.
The districts where the clean-up campaign will be conducted are Kohima, Mokokchung, Dimapur, Mon and Zunheboto districts.
The cleanliness drive will be carried out to give focus on waste management in the mountains, said L.H. Thangi Mannen, the convenor of Nagaland chapter of the Himalayan Cleanup (THC).

Mannen said the clean-up drive was initiated to beat plastic pollution by segregating waste since mountains are fragile and there are no means to tackle plastic pollution.
She said the waste collected will be assessed by its quantity and type and a report on the assessment will be sent to Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI) for further action.
The THC is an annual event conducted on May 26 across the Himalayan states of India.
The progamme has been pre-poned in Nagaland to May 25 this year as May 26 falls on Sunday.
The clean-up drive was initiated last year in conjunction with the “beat plastic pollution” theme of World Environment Day to draw attention to the problem of wastes in the mountains, especially single use plastic waste.
In Dimapur district, the cleanliness drive, to be led by North East Welfare Society along with Nature’s Ambassador, Can Youth, Padumpukhri Village Council and Nagamese Baptist Church, Padumpukhri, will be held at Padumpukhri while in Chumukedima it will be held at three locations.
In Kohima, it will be held at Kohima village and Sonuoru river.
The drive will be led by Kohima Village Youth Oganisation and supported by Kohima Village Council, Green Team Kohima, Project 72, The Coming Generation, YARD and Individuals, Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Kohima Municipal Council.
The social work will be held at public ground complex in Mokokchung.
Grace Ministry will lead the cleanliness drive in Mon town while Green Club, Zunheboto, along with Step by Step School, Olympic Higher Secondary School, Cornerstone, Merryhill, Bloomfield HS School which will carry out the drive in Zunheboto town area.
