The Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur, one of the oldest civil society orgsnisations in Nagaland, on Saturday expressed dismay that the unfortunate existence of parallel governments running the affairs of the day has crippled and threatened “very survival”. It made the statement in the context of multiple taxation by various Naga political groups and state government agencies.

The PAC has planned a mass public rally at Khermahal Junction here on October 31 to voice out against rampant multiple taxation, syndicate and lease systems operating in an around Dimapur district by various unions and organisations, including various Naga political groups and state government agencies.

It stated that rampant multiple taxation on various goods and services, transporters, entry fees on vehicles, item wise taxes on goods, dealers, stockiest, wholesalers down to the retailers has compounded the uncontrolled inflation in all prices in the market affecting the business community,  consumers and general public of the district and the state.

PAC convenor Vekhosayi Nyekha and co-convenor, K Ghokheto Chophy, in a press release, appealed to every citizen, tribal hohos, civil society organisations, churches within Dimapur district to attend the proposed public rally in traditional attire.

In this connection, the committee held a meeting with all the presidents and secretaries of 19 tribal hohos under Naga Council Dimapur, non-Naga communities, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries officials and the heads of educational institutes at the Naga Council Dimapur office on Saturday.
