Mystery shrouds the death of a woman who was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Nursury area near Kamakhya here on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Champa Das.
In this case, Jalukabari police have arrested Anjali Das, daughter-in-law and Aruna Das, granddaughter of the deceased on the basis of an FIR lodged by the deceased’s nephew, Papu Das at Jalukbari Police Station on Sunday.
A case (No 1480/18) has been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at Jalukbari Police Station.
Locals suspect Anjali Das’ hand behind the death of Champa Das.
Police sources said daughter-in-law Anjali Das informed the police about the incident.
Talking to Northeast Now, Officer in-Charge of Jalukbari Police Station, Puspendra Nath Sut said, “Though locals have suspected it to be a planned murder, the exact reason of the woman’s death is yet to be ascertained. It will be clear only when we get the post-mortem report.”
Police informed that the body of the lady has been sent for post-mortem to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Sunday.
The arrested were produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) on Monday.
