As Mumbai received heavy rainfall on Monday, air passengers travelling from Guwahati to Mumbai are uncertain about reaching the destination on time.

Flight operation at the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) was temporarily suspended from 9.12am to 9.31am amidst low visibility due to the heavy rains.

While all flights to and from Mumbai are delayed, or diverted, one IndiGo flight (6E 831), which left Guwahati at 8.40 am, managed to land about 12 minutes behind schedule. The flight had to hover over Nashik for some time.

“Fortunately we could land in Mumbai today,” Ranjan Das, a businessman from Guwahati, who has a scheduled business meeting at 3 pm told Northeast Now, immediately after landing.

Das is now not sure whether he will be able to reach his destination for the meeting because there is a massive traffic jam because of water-logging in Mumbai.

It is still uncertain whether the passengers of the three remaining flights from Guwahati to Mumbai will be able to land or not.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intermittent showers in Mumbai with heavy to very heavy rainfalls at isolated places. High tides are also expected at 4:18pm.

The cloud band combined with strong westerly winds in the current active monsoon conditions led to heavy rain for almost two hours on Monday.

As heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected during the day, and even on Tuesday, the passengers from Guwahati are quite uncertain about their delayed arrival at destination.

“If the flight is delayed or diverted, I am going to face problem because I have to catch a flight to the US from Mumbai,” Ratna Dutta, a housewife travelling to Mumbai from Guwahati, said.

The last flight from Guwahati to Mumbai is IndiGo’s 6E-433. As per schedule, it is supposed to fly from Guwahati at 5.20 pm, and land in Mumbai at 8.40 pm.

As flights originating from Mumbai were delayed on Monday, passengers travelling by the last IndiGo are uncertain about the schedule.

“Let’s hope the flight takes off on time,” a passenger at the Guwahati airport said.
