Continuing his fight for the non-tribals living in tribal areas, incumbent MP Naba Sarania on Tuesday demanded for a special law to protect the non-tribals living in the tribal belts and blocks in Assam.

“There may be so many people and families who are living in the tribal lands for generations…how can anybody demand their evacuation,” said Sarania in New Delhi.

Sarania was referring to a PIL filled by Northeast Heritage Foundation in the Gauhati High Court, demanding eviction of all foreign immigrants encroaching the land belonging to the protected tribal communities as per the Assam Land Revenue and Regulations Act 1947.

“When the Act was made interests of the non tribals was not taken into consideration.  So I demand that an amended law should be made which could give a clear mandate like cut off date for the non-tribvals living in the tribal belts,” said Sarania.

He suggested for a cut off date in tribal areas, like that of 25 March, 1971 for detecting Bangladeshis from rest of the state.

“Nobody can touch the non-tribal living in the tribal belts…we will fight against any such move and if necessary we will go to the court,” said Sarania.
