The Congress has accused the Centre of pushing the Northeast into chaos resulting in total breakdown in law and order in the region.

“There is complete breakdown of law and order and constitutional machinery in multiple states,” said senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala.

Surjewala added: “Prime Minister and Home Minister are guilty of criminal culpability on compromise of internal security and India’s territorial integrity.”

Terming the situation in the Northeast as ‘alarming’, the senior Congress leader said: “Uncertainty, conflict, violent clashes and unchecked lawlessness have marred a large part of India’s Northeast.”

The Congress leader also alleged that situation turned violent in several parts of the Northeast due to the abdication of constitutional duties and failure to restore rule of law from the Centre.

He said: “This completely indifferent, criminally aloof ‘hands-off-approach’ of BJP Government also emanates from its illegal and often divisive usurpation of power in many Northeast states and a blind lust to latch on to illegitimately formed governments, irrespective of consequences for the country!”

The Congress also cited instances in recent times when the law-and-order situation in several Northeast states were under threat.
