SonyLIV, India’s leading internet television service will begin telecast of the Season 8 of the Mizoram Premier League (MPL) on the national television platform.

In fact, MPL is the first league to be televised on a national television platform. The Season 8 of MPL will begin on Thursday.

Select matches of the MPL will be streamed live on SonyLIV. During the last seven seasons, MPL was televised on Zonet, a local cable channel.

This time, all the matches of Aizawl FC, the I-League 2017-18 champions will be shown live on SonyLIV.

Highlights for the rest of the games will be streamed for the national audience.

Eight clubs are participating in the Season 8 of MPPL. The first match is being played between Electric Veng FC vs FC Venghnuai on September 5.

The Season 8 of MPL will kick off at Lammual, a century-old playground, with sitting capacity of more than 5,000 spectators.

“We are happy to know that SonyLIV is now showing so much interest in Indian football,” Ratanlal Das, a football writer based in Kolkata told Northeast Now.

Das said the young football players across India will draw inspiration once the state-level matches are streamed live on national television platforms.

Football is an extremely popular game in Mizoram, and the tiny state has produced some of the finest footballers.

More than three-dozen players from Mizoram play for different clubs in I-League and the ISL. Some of them even represent the Team India.

The Mizoram team had surprised everyone when it emerged as the champions of the Santosh Trophy in the 2013-14 season.
