Regular physical classes for students of Classes 9 and 11 will resume on February 22 in Mizoram.

Earlier on January 22, the state government re-opened schools for the students of Classes 10 and 12, who will appear in the board examinations in April.

Schools in Mizoram have remained closed since March last year due to the Covid19 pandemic.

The state government order on Wednesday said normal classes for students of Classes 9 and 11 will start from February 22 and all students are subjected to undergo thermal screening before entering their schools.

Students of Classes 9 and 11 will also be allowed to stay in hostels with effect from February 22 provided that all hostellers have negative result certificate for RT-PCR/TrueNAT test/RAgT, at least within 96 hours before entry into hostels, the order said.

Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) prepared by the School Education Department will be strictly followed, the order added.

School education department director James Lalrinchhana said that regular classes for students of lower classes will likely start from March depending on the Covid19 situation.

The Covid19 curve in the state has shown a declining trend.

The number of active cases now stands at 17.

Mizoram on Wednesday reported one Covid19 case, taking the state’s tally to 4,396.

A total of 4,369 people have already recovered from the virus.

The state has reported 10 Covid19 deaths so far.

While the recovery rate of the state is 99.39%, the infection rate is 1.98%.
