Mizoram CM Zoramthanga

The Mizoram government would come up with special schemes to rehabilitate former cadres of the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front (MNF) and martyrs, who laid down their lives for the cause of Mizoram during the secessionist movement, chief minister Zoramthanga said on Friday.

He told the assembly that a rehabilitation and resettlement board has been already set up to take measures concerning the scheme.

He said that two special schemes-special scheme for peace accord MNF returnees and a special package for recruitment of peace accord MNF returnees have been already implemented in the past under which several returnees were given employment under the state government.

Zoramthanga, who also holds the General Administration portfolio, said that all the MNF cadres were provided with land for constructing houses when they came overground.

“We will continue to give special rehabilitation packages to the returnees from the state budget and also seek assistance from the Centre,” he said.

The chief minister said that Rs 5 crore was allocated for rehabilitation and settlement of ex-cadres and martyrs during fiscal 2020-2021.

However, no rehabilitation was provided to the returnees or martyrs from January 2019 to January 2021, he added.
