Mizoram assembly speaker Lalrinliana Sailo has tested positive for Covid-19, official sources said on Thursday. 

The 62-year-old Mizo National Front (MNF) leader was found infected with COVID-19 along with his wife T Lalthangpuii and son on Thursday. 

While the speaker and his son are asymptomatic, his wife developed symptoms of Covid-19. 

They will be isolated at their home, the sources added. 

With Sailo, at least 7 legislators, including three ministers in Mizoram, have been infected with Covid-19 so far. 

Five of them have already recovered from the infection. 

State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister K Lalrinliana (61), who tested positive for COVID-19 on September 27, is currently undergoing treatment at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) near Aizawl.

Meanwhile, a four-member Central team, which was supposed to visit Champhai district today (Thursday) has deferred their trip and is likely to visit the border district on Friday, where thousands of refugees from Myanmar are camping, state nodal officer and official spokesperson on COVID-19 Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma said. 

Le by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) consultant-epidemiologist Dr Vinita Gupta, the team arrived in Aizawl on Tuesday to assess the rising cases of COVID-19 in the state. 

The team had on Wednesday held a meeting with chief medical officers of various districts via video conference to review the COVID-19 situation of their respective states, Pachuau said. 

He said that the Central team will inspect Covid-19 care facilities and also pay a visit to the offices of Chief Medical Officers within Aizawl East and Aizawl West today.
