Mizoram, on Monday, registered its highest ever single day spike in COVID-19 cases. 

A total of 1369 new COVID-19 cases have been detected in Mizoram in the last 24 hours. 

With the detection of the new cases, Mizoram’s total caseload has risen to 33,452. 

Meanwhile, the active cases tally of the state is also nearing the 10,000 mark and is currently standing at 9743.

Of the new cases detected in Mizoram, 1355 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test and 14 through TrueNat tests. 

Mizoram capital – Aizawl accounts for the highest number of active cases – 7006, followed by Lunglei – 914 and Kolasib – 667. 

On the other hand, Mizoram also registered one more COVID-19 related death. 

With this new death, Mizoram’s total death toll now stands at 137.

Notably, Mizoram recently had reported detection of at least three variants of COVID-19 – highly transmissible Delta variant, Eta variant and the Alppha variant. 

The Mizoram Government, on Friday, had extended total lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area till July 31, in a bid curtail rising cases and facilitate mass testing drive.
