Mizoram power and electricity minister R Lalzirliana on Tuesday tested positive for novel coronavirus, an official said.

State spokesperson for Covid-19 and state nodal officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Dr. Pachuau Lalmalsawma said that the minister (71) and his wife Lalthangmawii (59) were diagnosed with Covid-19 through Rapid Antigen Test on Tuesday.

He said that the minister’s son Vanlalruatfela Ralte is also undergoing treatment for Covid-19 since he was diagnosed with the infection on May 8.

The three are currently put under home isolation, he said.

Lalzirliana said that he did not develop any symptoms of Covid-19 and was doing fine.

However, his wife has a mild fever, he said.

“I swear to myself I will fight this Covid-19 in a manly manner.  I and my son have no symptoms of Covid-19 but only my wife has a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit,” he said.

Lalzirliana also holds arts and culture, land resources, soil and water conservation, and district council and minority affairs portfolios in the present Mizo National Front (MNF) government headed by chief minister Zoramthanga.
