Mizoram reported 880 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday – 633 less than the previous day – taking the state’s tally to 1,48,438, a health department official said. 

Earlier on Tuesday, the state reported 1,513 cases, the highest single-day spike in three months. 

The death toll rose to 564 as two more persons have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the official said. 

The single-day positivity rate increased to 20.36 per cent from 17.85 per cent the previous day, he said. 

Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 225, followed by Saitual (182) and Serchhip (160), he said.

The number of active cases now stands at 6,639, while 149 people have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 1,41,235, the official said. 

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 95.14 per cent and the death rate is 0.37 per cent. 

The northeastern state has so far tested 15.53 lakh samples for COVID-19 and out of this 4,323 samples were tested on Tuesday. 

According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 7.57 lakh people have been inoculated till Tuesday and of this 5.95 lakh people have received full dose. 

738 people have so far received precautionary dose since January 10, she said.
