The wife and two children of COVID-19 patient, who were isolated to Zoram Medical College (ZMC) also called state referral hospital, were discharged from the hospital, a Mizoram Health department official said on Sunday.

They were sent to isolation ward at the state’s lone medical college after their husband/father tested positive on March 25 last.

“Wife and two children of coronavirus patient were discharged from the hospital on Saturday after their samples tested negative,” a top health official said.

Earlier, their blood samples were sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

“Result of the samples were declared on Friday and found negative,” he said.

The official also said that the COVID-19 patient’s relatives were closely monitored by local level task force and they were put under home quarantine.

Mizoram reported its first case of novel coronavirus on March 25 when a 50-year-old pastor, who returned from Netherlands tested positive.

He was sent to isolation ward along with his family on the night of March 24 soon his result was learnt.

Health department said the patient showed sign of improvement and is out of danger.

The Health department also traced people, whom the patient came in contact with.

On Saturday, one suspected patient was sent to ZMC for isolation after he was found developing symptoms of coronavirus, officials said.

Meanwhile, 12 samples, including the suspected patient, were sent to Silchar for test and results are awaited, they said.

The Mizoram government has been expediting measures to fight the rapidly increasing coronavirus spread after it reported first case on March 25.

Responding to a call given by Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), a conglomerate of 15 major churches in the state, every household held prayers on Saturday night seeking God’s intervention so that Mizoam is saved from cornavirus and the global outbreak is contained immediately.
