Mizoram Covid-19 count crossed a 50,000 mark on Thursday with 487 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, while 3 more fatalities took the death toll to 188, a health department official said.

Of the total 50,437 Covid-19 cases, 8,230 are active, while 42,019 people have recovered from the infection, including 1,338 people on Wednesday, he said.

52 new cases were confirmed at an RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), 418 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from various districts and 17 through TrueNat tests, he said.

Of the 484 fresh cases, Aizawl district reported 263 cases, Kolasib district (65), Lawngtlai district (59), Lunglei district (32), Serchhip district (22), Siaha district (20), Champhai district (14), Hnahthial district (7), and Mamit district reported 5 cases, he said.

The single-day positivity rate was 4.35 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 11,175 samples, the official said.

More than 93 children and two healthcare frontline workers were among the newly infected people.

One patient has a travel history while the rest 486 were found to have locally contracted the virus, he said.

306 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19 and the remaining 181 are asymptomatic, the official added.

The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients is 83.30 per cent ant the death rate is 0.37 per cent.

The state has tested more than 7.65 lakh samples for Covid-19 so far.

According to state immunization officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 6.48 lakh people have been vaccinated, of which more than 2.22 lakh people have received full dose of the Covid-19 vaccine till Wednesday.
