At least 4 people, including 3 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 201, an official said.

The three jawans belonged to 60 Battalion of BSF currently posted at Pukpui village in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district and have returned from Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, the official said.

They were confirmed infected with Covid-19 at Lunglei Civil hospital with the help of Truenat machine on Tuesday night, he said.

He said that the three BSF jawans are asymptomatic and have been placed under quarantine since their arrival in the state.

They are in the age group of 50-58.

The official also said that at least 115 samples were tested at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Tuesday out of which a 24-year-old woman was found infected with the novel coronavirus.

He said the woman has returned to the state from Greece and has been lodged at a quarantine facility in Kolasib district since her arrival in the state.

The woman is out of danger as she developed no symptoms of coronavirus, he said.

Meanwhile, health department sources said that at least 4 people- all females have recovered and were discharged from ZMC on Wednesday.

The sources said that there are 58 active cases in the state and 143 people have recovered so far.

Aizawl district has surpassed Lunglei district in registering the highest Covid- 19 cases with 58 while Lunglei district reported 57 cases.

Siaha district has so far reported 23 cases, Mamit district-20, Champhai district-10, Kolasib and Lawngtlai districts reported 12 cases each, Serchhip, Khawzawl and Saitual reported 3 cases each while Hnahthial district has not reported any Covid-19 case till date.

Meanwhile, the state government had declared 5th Indian Reserve battalion camp at Lungverh, near Aizawl as a containment zone.

The order issued by Aizawl district deputy commissioner Vanlalngaihsaka said that the IR camp and its surrounding areas have been declared containment zone after 15 personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) posted at the camp have tested positive for Covid-19.
