AIZAWL: In a significant revelation, Mizoram education minister, Dr Vanlalthlana, disclosed on Tuesday (March 12) that a staggering total of 2991 positions remain vacant within the state’s school education department.

This disclosure came during a session of the state legislature, shedding light on a critical issue affecting the education sector in Mizoram.

Responding to a query posed by Prova Chakma, a member of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), Mizoram minister Vanlalthlana affirmed that measures are underway to address this pressing concern by initiating the recruitment process in accordance with existing guidelines.

He underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that these vacancies are filled based on merit, emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent selection process.

Furthermore, Mizoram minister Vanlalthlana outlined the government’s strategy to prioritize the rationalization of teachers across educational institutions.

He emphasized that particular attention will be directed towards schools grappling with a shortage of educators, indicating a proactive approach to addressing staffing needs where they are most acute.

The revelation of nearly 3000 vacant positions underscores the magnitude of the challenge facing Mizoram’s education system.

These vacancies not only strain the capacity of existing staff but also have broader implications for the quality of education delivered to students across Mizoram.

Filling these posts promptly and efficiently is imperative to ensure the effective functioning of schools and the holistic development of students.

As Mizoram endeavours to address this staffing shortfall, stakeholders will be closely watching the government’s efforts to streamline the recruitment process and deploy educators where they are most needed.
