Troopers of the Assam Rifles have seized foreign cigarette worth over Rs crore at Champhai in Mizoram. 

“134 Cases of foreign origin cigarettes seize in general area Hrikawn in Mizoram,” Assam Rifles said in a statement. 

The Assam Rifles troopers and Champhai customs department seized the smuggled cigarattes after receiving specific information. 

“…recovered items handed over to Customs Preventive Force Champhai for further legal proceedings,” the Assam Rifles stated.

The seizure of the smuggled items is easily one of the biggest in recent times. 

“Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” the Assam Rifles added.
