Jail inmates in Punjab tests COVID-19 positive

Five people, including a woman, have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 272, government sources said.

According to a statement by state information and public relation department, the new cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Thursday night.

It said that at least 248 samples were tested at ZMC on Thursday, out of which 3 people from Aizawl district and 2 from Serchhip district have tested positive for COVID-19.

The newly Covid-19 infected patients have returned from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Nagaland and Tripura, it said.

The patients aged 20 – 39 have been placed under quarantine since their arrival in the state and all are asymptomatic, the statement said.

Meanwhile, an official said that at least 24 samples of active patients, including 12 BSF jawans, were retested at Lunglei civil hospital on Thursday and 20 of them came out as negative in the first test.

A confirmation test will be conducted again, he said.

There are 112 active cases in the state while 160 people have already recovered.

So far, Aizawl district has reported 109 cases, Lunglei district-63, Siaha district-23, Champhai district-10, Kolasib district-12, Serchhip district-7, Lawngtlai and Mamit district reported 21 each and Saitual and Khawzawl reported 3 cases each.

Hnahthial district has not reported Covid-19 cases till date.
