Mizo National Front (MNF) Legislature Party on Wednesday strongly condemned the attack on innocent Mizos by unidentified miscreants at Gharmura in Assam’s Hailakandi district in the wake of fresh tension along the Mizoram-Assam border.
Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga said the meeting of MNF Legislature Party on Wednesday condemned the attack on innocent Mizos by miscreants at Gharmura and termed it a ‘cowardly act.
“The Mizo National Front’s Legislature Party meeting held today condemns the cowardly attack on innocent Mizos by miscreants at Gharmura, Hailakandi district, Assam. I denounce this vile act of violence against children, women and men,” Zoramthanga tweeted.

The meeting also blamed the disturbances created by some miscreants from Assam at Zophai area along the border with Assam.
At least three people from Mizoram and few others from Assam were injured in a clash between residents of both the neighbouring states at Zophai area (Kachurtal area) in Kolasib district along the Mizoram-Assam border on Tuesday.
The clash took place when two employees of Mizoram’s Power and Electric department and a member of Bairabi village council, who went to inspect power line, were thrashed by residents of Assam, Kolasib district deputy commissioner H. Lalthlangliana said.
He said the three people were taking photos of the ongoing construction of a link road by Assam government into the disputed land when the locals attacked them.
A total of 19 farm huts were burnt down by unidentified miscreants, he said.
He said security has been deployed in the area by both states to bring normalcy.
The situation as of now is calm, he said.
“I am in constant contact with my Hailakandi counterpart. No further incident was reported on Wednesday. The situation is calm now,” the DC said.
The deputy commissioner also said unidentified miscreants stormed a mission compound at Gharmura in Hailakandi district around 9 pm on Tuesday, apparently the fallout of the border dispute at Zophai.
He said at least five people were injured when miscreants torched a missionary house and assaulted the occupants.
They also ransacked another house and a car was also completely burnt to ashes.
The five injured were brought to Aizawl on Wednesday morning and they have been admitted to Synod hospital at Durtlang.
