Excise and narcotics department officials seized 309 grams of heroin worth over Rs 8 lakh at different places in Mizoram in the last 24 hours.

Three persons, including a Myanmarese, have been arrested for possessing the contraband, a statement by the Excise and narcotics department said on Thursday.

The statement said 258 grams of heroin were seized at New Hruaikawn village in Champhai district bordering Myanmar on Wednesday at around 7:30 pm.

In connection with the seizure, 33-year-old Vanbiakliana, a resident of Khawmawi village in Myanmar’s Chin state, was arrested.

In another seizure, anti-narcotic squad of the excise and narcotics department seized 39 grams of heroin and arrested Lalchhantluangi of Chamari in Aizawl on Wednesday around 11:26 pm.

The anti-narcotic squad also seized 12 grams of heroin and arrested one person identified as Lalhruaichhungi, a resident of Vaivakawn Zohnuai in Aizawl on Thursday.

All the three accused were booked under relevant sections of The Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the statement said.

The department also seized 140 litres of Myanmar origin liquor (BEDC) and arrested three people in connection with the seizure on Wednesday.

The three accused were booked under relevant sections of The Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Act, 2019.
