At least 21 people, including two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking Mizoram’s Covid-19 caseload to 3,934, an official said.

The number of active cases now stands at 220, while 3,708 people have already recovered from the virus, he said.

Of the 1,144 samples tested at RT-PCR lab in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), TrueNat labs in various district hospitals and using Rapid Antigen Test, a total of 21 people, including 6 females, were found positive for Covid-19, the official said.

Eight cases were reported from Lawngtlai district, seven cases from Aizawl district, four cases from Lunglei district and 1 case each was reported from Kolasib and Serchhip districts in the last 24 hours, he said.

Two BSF jawans, one policeman and six children were among the newly infected people.

The policeman, who recently discharged from a Covid-19 Care Centre after his Rapid Antigen Test showed negative, has had his sample retested on his own and was found infected with Covid-19 again, the official said.

While 10 patients have travel history, 10 were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing and it is to ascertain how one patient contracted the virus, he said.

Three patients developed symptoms of Covid-19, while the remaining 18 patients were asymptomatic, added.

The recovery rate is 94.26 per cent.

Mizoram has so far reported six Covid-19 deaths, which is 0.16 per cent of the total infection.

According to the state health department, the state has also tested 1, 56,651 samples till date and the Covid-19 infection rate is 2.51 per cent.
