Mizoram reported 1054 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday – 174 more than the previous day – taking the state’s tally to 1,49,492, a health department official said. 

This is the second time the state reported over 1000 cases in a single day after three months. 

Earlier on Tuesday, the state reported 1513 cases, the highest single-day spike in three months. 

The death toll remains at 564 as no new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, the official said.

The single-day positivity rate dipped to 15 per cent from 20.36 per cent the previous day, he said. 

Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 299, followed by Khawzawl (178) and Serchhip (160), he said. 

The number of active cases now stands at 7397, while 296 people have recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 1,41,531, the official said. 

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 94.67 per cent and the death rate is 0.37 per cent.

The northeastern state has so far tested 15.60 lakh samples for COVID-19 and out of this 6984 samples were tested on Wednesday. 

According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 7.63 lakh people have been inoculated till Wednesday and of this 5.97 lakh people have received full dose. 

2494 people have so far received precautionary dose since January 10, she said.
