Mizo National Front (MNF) government is all set to create three new districts in the state – Saitual, Hnathial and Khawzawl.

This was revealed by Mizoram Health Minister and MNF vice president R. Lalthangliana while addressing a function in Saitual town in Aizawl on Thursday.

The formation of three new districts for the state had been announced by the MNF government in the year 2008, reports The Telegraph.

Saitual is a census town located in Aizawl district in the state.

On the other hand, Hnathial and Khawzawl are census towns located in Lunglei district and Champhai district of Mizoram respectively.

Mizoram Home Minister R Lalthangliana alleged that the Congress had failed to implement and make the three towns into full-fledged district headquarters.

According to the MNF, the Congress had refused to form the three new districts in Mizoram as the original plan had been declared by a rival party.

Urging the people of the areas of Saitual, Hnathial and Khawzawl to remain calm, Langthaliana said that the present government would soon accord full-fledged districts to the three areas as they had promised in the Assembly polls.

The people of Saitual, Hnathial and Khawzawl have been demanding separate district headquarters for many years.

The formation of the three new districts was one of the main promises made by the MNF  during the election campaigns which ensured a successful victory for them.

Lalthangliana hoped that the three new districts would help in political and economic development of the people.

The MNF government had earlier promised to create the three new districts in 2008 but failed to make it operational after the MNF party lost to the Congress in the 2008 Assembly polls.

The MNF government assumed office in the month of December last year. The MNF government was formed by Pu Laldenga in the year 1951.
