Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla on Friday accused BJP of ‘raping’ democracy in Karnataka and said the excessive use of undemocratic means by the saffron party in their attempt to create Hindu state of India has started uniting the opposition parties.

Speaking at Congress Bhavan in Aizawl at the political session of Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee Lal Thanhawla said that the BJP would reap the harvest of the rotten seeds they have been sowing in the political field of the country.

“What they’ve done in Karnataka is an outright abuse of the principles of democracy, without numbers they claimed stake to form the government undemocratically. They knew exactly what they had done, only the chief minister was sworn in,” Lal Thanhawla said.

The veteran Congress leader, who is among the few Congress chief ministers left in the country said he has no apprehension over the growing powers of the BJP in the rest of the country.

“The dirty politics of the BJP can be seen everywhere, demonetisation has nothing to do with the economy, the main reason was the UP election, the BJP knew beforehand and while the opposition parties were facing cash crunch, the BJP leadership flew in with Rs 4500 crore to make sure that votes were bought,” Lal Thanhawla alleged.

The five-time chief minister of Mizoram further said that it was not the wave that formed the government in Nagaland, it was “money that formed the government in Nagaland.”

Mizoram will go to polls later this year.
