The latest addition on the fray of Serchhip constituency in Mizoram has made headlines again, Kapliana Pachuau, former president of Mizoram Journalists Association has joined the National People’s Party and will contest the constituency on the party’s ticket.

Presidents of Mizoram political parties are forming a beeline at Serchhip AC in Mizoram already, four political party presidents have announced their candidature at Serchhip constituency, Lal Thanhawla’s seat for the past 15 years.

Lal Thanhawla has been elected from Serchhip assembly constituency in 2003, 2008 and 2013 consecutively without much hurdle, but the November 28 Mizoram polls will see two political parties presidents and the third front – Zoram Nationalists Party president and Zoram People’s Movement chief ministerial candidate Lal Duhoma.

A lesser known political party called Zoramthar has already announced that their party president Rev. Dr Zaichhawna Hlawndo as their Serchhip candidate and Prism party has Vanlalruata has made it official to contest the same.

Kapliana Pachuau, a journalist and the editor Serchhip Times said he made a deal to contest Serchhip AC on NPP’s ticket on October 27, 2018.

“Very soon our party will open our Serchhip office and we will start creating party units across the constituency, at the moment we have two local units at Buangpui and Thenzawl,” Pachuau said.

Lal Thanhawla, however is also being nominated by the Mizoram PCC as the official candidate of Champhai South as his second seat.

Lal Duhoma, a former IPS officer and the former head of the late Indira Gandhi’s security detail and the president of Zoram Nationalists Party has already announced he would contest from Serchhip AC. His party has formed a political conglomerate of five political parties – the Zoram Peoples Movement, and has been named the chief ministerial candidate.
