Mizoram home minister R Lalzirliana and sports minister Zodintluanga expressed regrets for the unfortunate incident of attack on Manipur’s junior volleyball team captain Sakil Chesam by hooligans at the recently concluded 26th Mini-National Volleyball Championship held in Aizawl.

Angered by the controversial decisions made by the match officials, Mizoram fans invaded into the volleyball pitch area at Dengthuama Indoor Stadium at Mualpui after Manipur beat Mizoram in the boys’ final of 26th Mini-National Volleyball Championship. In the process the Manipur captain unfortunately received injury in the process.

“My heartfelt gratitude and my sincerest apology to Sakil Chesam, the victim of unruly fans who invaded the pitch, I wish him a speedy recovery and I guarantee him that the perpetrators will be nabbed and bring to justice,” Mizoram home minister R Lalzirliana said.

Mizoram sports minister Zodintluanga said the people of Mizoram deeply regret that such an incident took place causing physical and mental agony to the young player. “The state has never experienced an incident like this in the past and is totally in shock to learn that a player from outside the state had unfortunately met with such an incident,” he added.
