The Mission ‘Sambhav’, the statewide campaign to achieve pit digging for construction of altogether one lakh individual household latrines (IHHL) in a single day has been launched in Darrang by the District Water and Sanitation committee along with the other districts of the State.

Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman in presence of the Darrang Superintendent of Police, Sreejith T and other government officials and locals ceremonially launched the project at Medhipara village under Chapai Gaon Panchayat, Mangaldai by digging one pit with a target of constructing 5,000 new toilets by April 5 next.

According to official sources, with the completion of the 5,000 new household toilets, Darrang district will come one step closer to be declared as the open defecation free (ODF) district leaving just over 42,000 toilets for construction from the overall target of 138,150.

Out of the total target of 138,150 individual household toilets since the launch of the ‘Swacch Bharat Mission’ in 2014, under the project ‘Sambhav’, construction of 91,000 toilets has been recorded so far.

Moreover another initiative of ‘Daan Toilet’ has also been started in the district. Under this initiative, several government officials including Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering, Mangaldai, MB Dhar announced to construct two toilets from his voluntary contribution.

Similarly, Assistant Executive Engineer Amir Chand Sing, ZSBP David Rajbongshi, local entrepreneur Mahendra Deka all announced to donate one toilet each from their contribution.
