At a time when the people of the oil city, Digboi, are concerned over the rising crime rate in the area, sensation prevails after the arrest of one woman for allegedly being involved in a sex racket in Digboi.

The woman, who has been arrested on Monday evening for allegedly being involved in a sex racket, has been identified as 35-year-old Munmi alias Moni Dey, wife of late Sanjib Dey of Digboi Borbil No 2 under Digboi Police Station in Tinsukia district in Upper Assam.

According to police sources, the woman was arrested following an FIR lodged by Reshma Begam, the mother of a 12-year old girl, who was allegedly kidnapped by one Sunu Dey from her residence on Sunday late night.

Sunu Dey of Borbil area has been staying with alleged prime accused Munmi Dey, who has been residing in a rented house owned by one Dinanath Dutta at Borbil No 2 in Digboi.

As per sources, there is no proper information about the original address and identification of Suni Dey with the local residents and police.

According to the FIR, lodged against accused Moni Dey, she was directly involved in the act of kidnapping the minor student of a school from her residence. Following an investigation, the police gathered sufficient evidences through her mobile phones and other sources to establish her direct involvement in the act. Police also recovered various obscene photographs of her own obscene clippings.

Meanwhile, the neighbours and local residents of Borbil area alleged that Moni Dey was running a network of child trafficking and was allegedly involved teens in flesh trade for making easy money.

“She (Moni Dey) has sold the minor girl through Sunu Dey, who is her accomplice and arranged to send her out of Digboi,” alleged a member of Borbil Muslim Society when activists of different organizations thronged Digboi Police Station pressurising the police to rescue the victim safely and unhurt.

“What is more astonishing is the recovery of one of the photographs clicked in public during a public function with a political leader of Digboi  from a very close proximity which establishes her  extensive social contact,” said a local business woman of Digboi.

Hundreds of people from various walks of life cutting across caste, creed and community bars thronged the police station and demanded the administration to ensure that the culprits are given exemplary  punishment and the victim is immediately rescued.

Sources informed that with Moni Dey has been sent to two-day police custody.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Section 366(A)/34 of IPC. The operation carried out by the Digboi Police team was led by Inspector Mahesh Chandra Bora.

“No forces whatsoever can influence the investigation process in the case and the police will proceed according to information and valid evidences,” asserted Mughdha Jyoti Mahanta, Superintendent of Police, Tinsukia, adding, “The guilty would be awarded adequately as per law.”
