One more case of a heinous crime involving the rape of a 13 year old minor on Tuesday night in Cachar district of Assam, has created widespread sensation following the outbreak of this news.

The incident occurred in Kalain’s Fakirtilla, when two prime accused, Sanjay Das, aged 32 years, and Ravi Barman, aged 40 years, took Chumki (name changed) aged 13 years from her house in Silchar’s TV Centre road of Tarapur at 1:30 pm. Not finding her at home till evening, a missing complaint was lodged in Tarapur police outpost while the family members began a search operation on their own.

The victim’s brother talking to Northeast Now said, “I was out for I had to take my father to a doctor. Upon returning, found my sister was not at home. My doubts led me to the house of a person (Sanjay Das) whom all our family members knew, but, didn’t find him out there. I called his mobile number and found it to be switched off, for which, filed an FIR too at Tarapur Police Outpost.”

“My doubts didn’t rest, for which, I approached the house of one of his friend (Ravi Barman) and he too was missing. Ravi Barman’s mother informed that, both these two, have left with a girl for a ride. This piece of information made me believe that my sister was in the wrong hands of these blokes. With the help of our relatives and Suma Sharma, who is the president of Maa Manasa Mahila Samiti that works in and around our locality with issues of women, we were able to locate her from Kalain’s Fakirtilla and caught Ravi Barman red handed, while, Sanjay Das managed to escape. The worst part though, I couldn’t help my sister from this crime, for she has lost everything,” he added.

President of Maa Manasa Mahila Samiti, Suma Sharma, talking to this correspondent on Wednesday, outside Silchar’s Sadar Thana, pleaded for strictest punishment for these two accused who have spoilt the life of this girl child.

“I am greatful to OC Tarapur for extending all possible help but the state in which we found chumki (name changed) cannot be described. The girl is of just 13 years old and is still to understand the facts of life. We are unable to comprehend whether it is the girls’ fault to go out with these guys, or anything else, we don’t know what to say. We have never even imagined that such a thing could happen with this poor child. We are pleading for justice to be meted out to chumki (name changed) for what these two accused have done, can be the fate of any other minor.”

Meanwhile, Silchar’s Sadar Thana too have aroused from its slumber owing to the severity of the case. A man hunt has been launched at the time of filing of this report to nab one of the accused, Sanjay Das, who is still absconding.

Chumki (name changed) has been admitted to the ICU of Silchar Medical College owing to severe pain, informed her brother, on Wednesday evening.
