The vehicle damaged in attack by TMC workers in West Midnapore.

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday evening were allegedly attacked by the workers of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Midnapore district of the state.

As per reports, the convoy of Bengal BJP president Ghosh, to which minister Sarma was also a part, was attacked by TMC men at Khejuri in West Midnapore.

Minister Sarma in a series of tweets in connection with the incident alleged that the TMC workers had blocked the roads but the West Bengal police did not help them.

“TMC goons have blocked the roads on both sides, even as West Bengal Police personnel standing like mute spectator. I am appalled at such brazen abuse of power by Mamata Banerjee whose people have thrown all democratic norms to gutter,” he said in a tweet.

He also added that many of the BJP workers have been injured and both the leaders have been “stuck” at the place.

“We are at Khejuri in Kanthi LS constituency and attacked mercilessly by AITC (Trinamool Congress) goons. Many of our workers are injured even as Mamata Banerjee goons gheraoing and abusing us. Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and I are stuck,” Himanta tweeted.

Himanta further alleged that CRPF personnel were not allowed by TMC workers to rescue them.

“While reinforcement from CRPF has arrived, the violent TMC goons are not allowing the forces to rescue us. The Trinamool cadres shouting and abusing everyone. Scene here is scary!,” he said in another tweet.

According to sources, two SUVs were completely broken down and TMC supporters surrounded the convoy from all sides.

Both Sarma and Ghosh were attacked when they were returning from BJP president Amit Shah’s meeting.

According to Sarma, the CRPF personnel helped them in moving away from the place while three BJP workers were taken away by TMC goons in front of the police.

The TMC workers also damaged at least 20 motors bikes belonging to BJP workers.
