The Indian Navy stopped its operation in a flooded coal mine in East Jaiñtia Hills district of Meghalaya where 15 miners were trapped and left the mining site on Friday.
An Indian Navy team had been camping at the site in Khloo Ryngksan of East Jaintia Hills after the incident occurred on December 13 last year.
It was on December 28 last year, a 15-member team of the Indian Navy divers reached Khloo Ryngksan, and joined the rescue operations to locate the trapped miners.
So far, only two miners have been retrieved from the coal mine.
While the body of Amir Hussain from Assam’s Chirang district was retrieved on January 23, the decomposed body of Dimonme Dkhar of Lumthari village in East Jaiñtia Hills district was pulled out of the mine on Thursday.
Spokesperson for the rescue operation, R. Susngi said that the Navy would leave the district on Saturday on the instruction they received from their higher authority.
“The district authority congratulates and salutes the efforts, dedication and their tremendous contribution in the last two months in the rescue operation,” Susngi said.
East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner F.M. Dopth conveyed his deepest gratitude and wished them a save journey home and to their next duty assigned to them in the interest of the country.
“The DC assured fond memories of the association will always remain. The district and the state as a whole are indebted of the services rendered by them,” Susngi said.
Susngi informed that the Indian Army would also side by side leave the site on receiving a call from the higher authority.
The NDRF and the SDRF are still at the operation site and continued to assist other agencies involved in the operation.
Meanwhile, pumping of water by the Coal India Limited continued on Friday for 36 hours and the discharge of water was 48,60,000 litres.
The KSB pumped out water for 32 hours and the discharge of water was 63,36,000 litres.
The Kirloskar pump pumped out water only from one pump because the other one developed some technical problem for the last few days. The discharge of water is 28,80,000 litres.
