Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday said the concept of ‘smart village’ is not to stop urbanization.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma said this while attending a special talk on ‘smart village’ by Prof Solomon Darwin, executive director, Garwood Center for Corporate Innovation, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.
Speaking on the concept of ‘smart villages’ during the special talk, the Meghalaya CM said that the concept of ‘smart village’ would give an opportunity to people, who want to stay in villages.
The special talk was organized by Synod College, Shillong in collaboration with the PA Sangma Foundation at the auditorium of Synod College.
“Lack of opportunities and infrastructures force people to urban areas,” said the Meghalaya chief minister.
While speaking on the occasion, chief minister Conrad Sangma informed that with the help of technology the basic services of health, education and livelihood would be brought to the doorstep.
The Meghalaya chief minister also said fear of dilution should not be a reason to deprive people of technology and development even at the grassroots level.
Earlier in his address, Prof Darwin said, “A Smart Village is a community empowered by Digital Technologies and Open Innovation Platforms to access Global Markets.”
