Organisations under the umbrella of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) on Friday staged a demonstrating in front of the Meghalaya secretariat building in Shillong, demanding the Union government to accept or reject the resolution passed on Inner Line permit (ILP) in the state.
CoMSO activists marched to the gate of the secretariat building and asked the state government to seek an immediate answer from the Centre on the implementation of ILP in the state.
The Meghalaya assembly had passed a resolution in December 2019 to urge the Centre to implement ILP.

As per the resolution, the ILP should be implemented under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 to safeguard the interests of the citizens of Meghalaya.
CoMSO member, Roikupar Synrem, said that the surprise march to the gate of the Secretariat was to wake up the state government to seek an answer from the Union government on the ILP issue.
“If the state government does not do anything in the coming day to talk with the Centre, CoMSO will come and lock the state secretariat because it is of no meaning to have a government if it cannot pursue this issue,” Synrem said.
The CoMSO activists shouted slogans while assembling in front of the secretariat’s gate and slammed the government for delaying the implementation of ILP.
