Meghalaya’s National Institute of Technology (NIT) will get Rs 314 crore more from the Centre to complete the construction of its permanent campus at Sohra.

The Centre, according to reports, would sanction another Rs 314 crore for early completion of the NIT at Sohra.

State education minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said the matter was raised before the union human resource development minister during a meeting held in New Delhi recently.

During the Winter Session in December last year, Shillong MP, Vincent H Pala had also raised in Lok Sabha over the delay to complete the NIT at Sohra and fund allocated and released during the last three years.

Pala raised specific queries on the status of NIT Meghalaya and specific plans to improve the condition of the institute.

In his reply, union HRD minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal informed that the Ministry had released and allocated funds of Rs 70 crore in 2017-18, Rs 48.78 crore in 2018-19 and Rs 46.36 crore in 2019-20 for the NIT in Meghalaya during the last three financial years.
