The Meghalaya government on Saturday decided to allow 1.15 per cent of local taxis to ply on the roads in Shillong.
This was decided during a review meeting on Covid-19 chaired by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma in the state capital.
However, drivers of these vehicles are required to declare their Covid-19 vaccination status as ‘vaccinated’ or ‘non-vaccinated’ on the vehicles.

During the second wave of Covid-19, drivers of public transport in Meghalaya were hit hard.
Many taxi drivers come to Guwahati in Assam to carry passengers from the Guwahati Railway Station and the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to different parts of Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya government new restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19 prevented inter-state travel as all passengers were to undergo RT-PCR test before entering the state.
A total of 505 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours in Meghalaya.
The virus also claimed three more lives on Saturday, taking the total death toll to 817.
The total number of positive cases have reached 47,985, of which 4,668 are active cases.
