Poor announcement on government order prohibiting plying of inter-district public transport vehicles has left thousands of people stranded especially those coming from West Khasi Hills district on Monday.

All commercial vehicles coming from Nongstoiñ, the district headquarter of West Khasi Hills district were stopped at Mairang.

Many drivers and commuters blamed the district administration of West Khasi Hills district for not publicising the government’s order properly on Sunday night, which led to them facing an unnecessary problem.

“The insensitivity of the district administration has caused undue consequences to commuters of West Khasi hills. Most people did not know the order of DC,” said a commuter.

“Had they been informed properly on Sunday night, people from the district would have not moved. Shillong is the State capital, and people from various districts would need to go there,” the commuter added.

The Meghalaya government on Sunday issued an order prohibiting plying of inter-state buses, tourist taxis, besides prohibiting inter-district plying of public transport vehicles like buses, maxi cabs, tourist taxis from March 23 to March 31.

Similarly, many vehicles from the two districts of Jaiñtia Hills were also stopped at Mookyndur and Puriang respectively.

Some vehicles ferrying patients to Shillong were also prevented.

Later, after intervention by a journalist, the vehicles were allowed to move to Shillong and the patient got the treatment and medicines.
