Guwahati: The Meghalaya government will soon announce different age limits for government jobs in four departments: Home (Police), Excise Registration, Taxation and Stamps, Home Guards and Civil Defence, and Forests & Environment.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma responded to concerns about the changes, clarifying that the government had previously raised the upper age limit for most government jobs to 32 years, with additional relaxation for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.

However, specific departments like those mentioned can set different age limits for certain positions due to their physically demanding nature.

While the exact details are yet to be officially announced, the Chief Minister explained that these departments previously followed different age limits.

“In pursuance to the above order, 4 departments of the government viz Home (Police), Excise Registration Taxation and Stamps, Home Guards and Civil Defence and Forests & Environment departments has requested the government to set different minimum and upper age limits for recruitment to government service. These minimum and maximum age limits have previously been followed also,” the CM said
