Northeast’s first honey bee integrated development centre will be set up in Meghalaya as per the decision of the National Bee Board (NBB).
Local honey is quite popular in Europe and certain South Asian countries.
NBB took the decision after taking into account this immense popularity of the local honey.
“An amount of Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for the centre,” disclosed NBB director BL Sarawat.
Importance and potential of beekeeping were also emphasized by Sarawat.
He was interacting with East Khasi Hills beekeepers at the Directorate of Agriculture’s Seminar Hall.
“Beekeepers of Meghalaya need to inculcate a scientific approach of beekeeping,” the NBB director stressed.
