Bethany Hospital in Shillong on Sunday issued a statement thanking the people of Meghalaya.

Here’s the unedited statement:

A HUGE THANK YOU

Dear Meghalayans,

We are amidst the pandemic that has rocked the planet. These are unprecedented times. The adrenaline is real and the overwhelming emotions are palpable. However, there is a bright side.

There always is, even when we are hurting too bad to see it.

Over the past week, we have witnessed panic and chaos, sufferings and hardships, but also kindness and generosity, intergenerational support and solidarity, and most importantly the remarkable fortitude which our frontline workers have exuded day in and day out since the outbreak of this pandemic in our state.

Everyone is stepping up to support each other in unexpected and beautiful ways. Together we can be bigger. When we as human beings want, we can come together and persevere.

During this trying time we have witnessed the selfless efforts of each and every member of different communities.

Therefore, on behalf of Bethany Hospital, Shillong, I am writing this letter of appreciation and gratitude to all our our current superheroes who are spending their days and nights to make sure that everyone has access to medical care, food, transportation and other vital services and for fighting the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc over our entire society.

To all our healthcare workers, thank you for your unrelenting commitment and cooperation. I am also humbled at the bravery, hard work and dedication of our troops at the frontline in our hospitals. Each one of you is an example of love, courage, care and compassion.

I am also very much enthused to express my profound gratitude to our Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Conrad Sangma, his team of Ministers and the entire government for helping us during these very difficult times. Your willingness to help out whenever there is a need is greatly appreciated.

Sir Sampath Kumar IAS and whole DoHFW, Sir Ram Kumar IAS, Sir Vijay Kumar IAS, Dr. Aman War and Directorate of Health Services: Thank you for being trustworthy and unbiased guides in taking care of all our healthcare workers and patients; for making sure that all our needs are available; for reaching into the dark corners of medical ignorance and fear with education and services. Thank you for being caring enough to provide healthy meals for us everyday at our hospital and quarantine centres.

I would also sincerely commend Kong Claudia Lyngwa & her team of police officers and also Kong Matsiewdor War and her office for helping us in smooth transport of our needs at this very difficult time. You have my full respect and support for all that you are doing.

Thank you very much. Please continue to serve with pride and dignity in these very difficult times.

Thank you to those who are staying at home in self-isolation to do their part in flattening this curve. Your actions are saving lives. Thank you to the journalists and public health officials who spend countless hours keeping us informed with truthful news and advice to keep us safe.

Thank you to the municipal cleaners. You help shield our immune system from invisible predators and save lives by doing so.

We also greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness of many of our friends and well-wishers who brought many food items for us at our quarantine centres during this difficult time.

Thank you, dear Meghalayans. Together we will be victorious and defeat this pandemic. Take care of yourselves and each other.

With gratitude,

Dr. Kyntiewlang Sanmiet Nodal Officer,

Bethany Hospital, Shillong.
