SHILLONG: The banned militant organization, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), has been accused of enticing “Sleeper Cell” members with promises of monetary rewards and vehicles to carry out IED blasts across various areas of Meghalaya.

According to Meghalaya police, the modus operandi involved fugitives based in Bangladesh directing these “Sleeper Cells” to execute the blasts.

Monetary incentives, including new vehicles, were reportedly offered to these members to carry out the attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the Meghalaya police informed.

Furthermore, it was disclosed that the same “Sleeper Cells” had raised HNLC flags in recent years under the instructions of Bangladesh-based fugitives associated with the banned outfit.

The revelation came to light after one of the apprehended suspects led the police to a house where a search was conducted by the Ri Bhoi police.

During the search operation, law enforcement recovered small arms, several gelatin sticks, detonators, ignition fuses, as well as HNLC flags and other incriminating materials from the arrested individual.

Authorities are now intensifying their investigations to apprehend all individuals involved in these nefarious activities.
